Object Multi-Publishing

CompoundDoc is intelligent enough to display itself differently to different clients. There are lots of clients out there now and there will be many more in the near future. Each version of each browser is technically a different client. Thus Netscape version 4 has different capabilities than Netscape 7 (Mozilla). The same applies to Internet Explorer's versions. There are many different browsers available besides these two. There are browsers for the GNU/Linux operating system such as Konqueror. Many physically challenged persons use handicapped browsers that read or change the display of a webpage. Lynx is a text-only browser that many scientists continue to use because it is still the fastest. Add to this list a whole host of new clients such as Blackberrys and cell phones with more to come.

Building a website is made difficult because the site should display in every client. The old way of building websites required a different site for each major client category. Programming code would read the request from the client and give that client the correct version of the page. All that changes with CompoundDoc. CompoundDoc knows which client is requesting it and changes its display automatically. If a new client is added to the mix then CompoundDoc is told how to display to it and all websites created with CompoundDoc inherit the ability.

The multi-publishing ability of CompoundDoc can even be used with the same client. As an example: the same webpage can have different views; one view is its normal display and another view is its printable version. CompoundDoc knows which to send based on the way the client makes the request. In another example the user logs-in to a website and is allowed to see different information than those not logged-in.
