Website Design - Influence and Automation
The second year saw rapid development of CompoundDoc.
Bill also established himself in the Zope developer community with influence in the direction of Zope's development. Two camps emerged; one consisted of developers using HTML editors and the other included hard-core programmers. While Zope Corp. needed the volume of the first group, they realized their future was with the programmers. Bill's persuasive arguments helped guide the community in the direction WME was taking.
CompoundDoc saw many small additions and two large ones.
- The first, browser identification, allows CompoundDoc to send different versions of each application to different browsers or appliances, such as PDA's and cell phones. This was built on the server end so it is accurate, fast and requires minimal code be sent across the Internet. Each browser gets the code it can best draw.
- The second year also saw addition of image filters, which automatically allows non-standard images to be converted and re-sized so pages can load quickly. These also gave clients the ability to manipulate images without the large learning curve of using a photo editor.
